Standards Based Assessment
At the end of chapter 2, of Get Growing!, students were assessed on the critical concepts and vocabulary in the form of a constructed response and matching assessment. Each question was reviewed in class (journaling) and the information needed for a "3" and a "4" was identified. In addition, the rubric was shared prior to the testing day. When I was correcting, student responses were highlighted on the answer key and used to determine the score on the rubric.

Below is a rubric for a research project in ELA on a self-selected topic. This integrated unit was taught by my intern, but developed with my input and oversight. In SS, students learned about Egypt, while in ELA they researched an area of Egyptian life and created a writing and visual that documented their learning. The final product could be a script, Powerpoint presentation, poety, ABC book, poster, etc. As long as the writing and visual adhered to the rubric, student creativity was encouraged.
